5.0 out of five stars Second to none, September 30, 2005
By FrKurt Messick “FrKurt Messick” (Bloomington, IN USA) See all my reviews
(TOP ten REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) () My cats have fleas! Or, at least, they had fleas. I used over the counter, less costly things (flea powders, flea collars, etc.) up to and as well as other topical merchandise like this one, and nothing worked. The flea collars were less than worthless they really caused patches of fur to fall out on at least one cat. The powder was unwieldy, and the other topical applications (save one) didn’t work at all.

I must give credit where credit is due I used Frontline before for my cats, and have been pleased with the results from that one. But, I decided to attempt Advantage this time, as I’d heard good things about it, and it was on sale at a discount when I needed it. I could not be more happy. Unlike most other topical applications where the flea matter is put on the shoulder blades of the cats and stinks (STINKS!), this has no easily discernable smell.

This is a good thing. As well, the cats seemed to settle down from their scratching and biting at fleas inside just some minutes. Last night was the 1st night in weeks that the cats have all rested peacefully. There were no signs of flea dirt left in their common sleeping spaces last night. I’m happy indeed.

My cats are happy. While I still have an appreciation for Frontline, I’m happy to have Advantage as a viable alternative.

The cats give this a sixteen paw salute! (Four cats, four paws each, you know.)

4.0 out of five stars Napalm for Fleas, December 5, 2006
By Bu Chan (Aotearoa) See all my reviews Black fleas on a black cat in warm, wet weather means just one thing: long, sleepless nights with itchy legs and bites on any other exposed area of skin. This is particularly so when said cat is a bit smoochy by nature and likes to get “cosy”.

Advantage has done wonders and I have seen the fleas drop off in a mass exodus on a Biblical scale. Unlike many other reviewers, I found that the pesky little b rs stayed off the cat for the complete month.

After some applications, really, I found a marked reduction in the numbers of inhabitant fleas in the house. It seemed that said smoochy cat had become a flea killing machine in his own right.

Excellent product that I have had no trouble with at all, (except for to get the cat to stay still long enough to get it on him). I have been surprised at the negative experiences many have had with the product.

5.0 out of five stars Advantage for Cats, August 9, 2007
By Fred “mrdata22″ (Sacramento, CA United States) See all my reviews () This review is from: Advantage Topical Solution Flea Treatment for Cats Over nine Pounds, six Applications (Misc.) Ordered Advantage for Cats over nine pounds in the six pack size. Had the best price I could find. Bayer makes this product which is efficient for now kills adult fleas (as opposed to othe merchandise that only kill the eggs). But, it appears that Bayer has, and continues, to use up many of time and resources to be sure that nobody any where sells this product below some price they want which I have documented going up every month and is quickly approaching $10 a month per treatment (per cat). I have five rescued cats so the price adds up to $50 per month to treat them for fleas. Every source I could find that sold this product at bargin prices was forced to cease selling it. This use to be called price fixing. Still, the product works well. Once I can find another product that will kill adult fleas for less money than the outrageous price of Bayer’s Advantage, I’ll switch. My order arrived fast and was packaged. I’ll use this merchant again. The five star ranking is for the retail merchant, and the usefulness of the product.

5.0 out of five stars Tidy Cats Breeze system.., June 29, 2008
By G. Diseth See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Tidy Cats Breeze Litter Box System for many Cats, 1 Count Kit (Grocery) I have had this for some weeks, and I am really happy with it.

The hugest advantage to this system is the urine is separated from the ‘litter’ and odor is largely reduced. The litter comprise of pellets alike in shape/size to the wood based natural litters, but they’re of a hard clay, which does not break down with moisture, and they keep their form. , the urine drains straight down through a grid to the pad (in own slide out drawer), and the poo stays on top to be scooped away.

The pee won’t ferment with the feature stench, and you do not have to deal with clumping litter which does not really clump, and is just plain stinky and messy to scoop up.

The proprietary ‘pee’ pads are kind of like a giant maxi pad, and take in many of liquid. As well, the bottom side of the pad is plastic, and the pad fits into the tray in a way that the plastic is upturned to keep the tray itself dry. Maintenance consists of just taking the drawer out to the trash, and sliding the pad out, putting in a new one, and sliding the drawer back into the bottom of the box.

The litter itself are hard pellets, which hardly get tracked, and it’s 100 dustless. A pellet or two stick to paws, but are easily picked up and tossed back into the box. Scooping is easy, and if the poo is dry, you may be able to kind of shake it around in the scoop to knock off many of the pellets, then throw it in the trash instead of wasting water with a toilet flush.

It takes mere seconds to preserve the box and ten minutes of scooping and scraping soggy clumping litter which does not really clump, but falls separately.

When it is time to change the litter (once a month), it just pours into the trash, no scraping the soggy wet concrete of old.

Some say you get a ‘poo’ smell, since kitties can not bury it quite like they did with the old kind of litter, but I will take that over the overpowering stench of fermented urine any day. And, the smell goes away quite shortly, just like human smell in the bathroom. Note that you may want to just use one bag of the pellets in the box, the litter will not be as deep. I just give the box a fast shake daily to it back out.

Cat adaption to the new box: This will not work for everyone, but this is what I did: I set up the new Breeze system beside the old box (which was pretty gross, as I let it get bad) to see what could happen. I placed a clump of the old litter into the new box to let him know it was ‘his.’ My nine year old fellow was pretty much using the new box now (probably out of curiousity more than anything). After three days or I removed the old box and put in it directly into the garbage, never to be dealt with again. No problems, 100 compliance on Max’s part.

If Tidy Cats came out with a completely hooded variant of the box, it could be great for the people who have standing pee ers, but my fellow does not do that, so I am lucky.

Finally, many say the pellets and pads are costly, but I estimate the cost as about equal to the old style of box over the long run and the convenience and easy maintenance should erase any other doubt.

Also, this system has the possible of keeping tons of regular clay litter out of landfills.

Highly suggested.

3.0 out of five stars Worked great for pee & hard poo, BUT couldn’t stand the poop smell, July 4, 2008
By Nime (Jersey City, NJ) See all my reviews This review is from: Tidy Cats Breeze Litter Box System for many Cats, 1 Count Kit (Grocery) Back when I used the breeze cat system, there were four cats in the apartment (2 are my cats, and the other two were my brother’s cats that I was temporarily taking care for him). I had the breeze beside the original litter box for three days and none of the cats used it. They all went over the pellets to check it out but didn’t pee/poop in there. One of the cats tried to eat a pellet and I took it away from him. I think none of them really ate it.

On the fourth day, I took the original litter box away, , then they all started using the breeze. There were no “accidents” in the apartment and I didn’t find pee or poop on the floor or carpet. I think the fact that I placed many of the pellets with their original litter really helped them get accustomed to the product (and also since the breeze system sitted there for three days, they were at least familiarized with it).

The pad that sucked up the pee worked really well. I experimented to figure out the right time to change the pad for the four cats. It turned out to be every three days. As for hard poop, I was ok with it staying at the top of the system and could pick it up with a plastic bag and throw it out (very easy).

The problem is with the runny/watery poop which will go all over the pellets and is tougher and takes longer to clean. Many of the pellets ended up to get thrown out once the watery poop touched them. As well, this system doesn’t do anything to help minimize the poop smell, which is the major complaint for my boyfriend about this system. , we didn’t keep the breeze because the smell was too awful. If you clean it up now after the cat pooped, the smell was still there.

We went back to the original litter box. I’m going to keep my eye on this product to see if tidy cats come out with better pellets that will do something about poop smell. If that time ever comes, I could purchase it because I know my cats will use this system & it did wonders for the pee. Now if only the poop situation works out!

5.0 out of five stars like it so far(1 day) , added information after a week, July 13, 2008
By D Bollman See all my reviews This review is from: Tidy Cats Breeze Litter Box System for many Cats, 1 Count Kit (Grocery) I got this yesterday and so far it seems good, I have been using silica litter but the cheap stuff isn’t that cheap and is pretty dusty, so I have been looking for an alternative and this looks to be it. The silica works great for drying up odors till it gets pee saturated. I sprinkled at little of the old wet litter on the breeze litter and the cats used it now. The pee does drain through and the pads are good, they have used it quite some times and the pad still feels dry. I am really hoping they do not poop in it and continue to use the silica for that, then I will have the best of both worlds, the poop will dry and the pee will be able to be gotten rid of so the costly silica will last longer.

After a week, still on the 1st pad and have not noticed any odor problems. Have three cats and left the silica so they’re using both but they’re using the breeze many. Adding crystals or enzyme spray to the pad may stretch it is life out longer. They have pooped in the breeze too and I have not noticed a smell but lots of pellets glue tight so I am losing quite some every time. I am used to the silica, which is much cleaner than clay or clumping and I have not noticed any increased odor with the breeze.

Changed the pad on the eighth day because, well really how far do you want to push it, and no sign of trouble. It was HEAVY with no sign of leakage or deterioration (I did not really attempt to stress test it, but it came out of the tray and into the bag with no problem).

4.0 out of five stars For what it’s, it is good., February 3, 2007
By Jeddy three See all my reviews This review is from: North States Superyard Classic XT Gate Play Yard (Baby Product) I bought this as a playpen replacement. It is as advertised, so I do not have any complaint about the quality, but up close it seems cheaper than it does in the photo. The person who said it seems like a dog kennel nailed it. If you are looking for something that will go well with the decor in your living room, do not annoy with this.

The way it seems does not annoy me that much; what does annoy me is that my son, by the era of twelve months, had learned how to push this thing around. It does not anchor to anything, so he started to shove it all over the living room, making it tip and usually creating chaos. My solution was to attach those removable non marring 3M “Command” hooks to the wall and tie coated wire around them, then lash that wire to the play yard. It does not look beautiful, that is for sure, but it works; the play yard does not budge any more. If your little one is walking, you too will have to jury rig a solution to their tendency to push the yard around and lift it if they are strong enough.

I also recommend you get those colorful interlocking bubble tiles to put under the play yard; it makes the play area a bit safer. Sells the “Edushape” brand, but you may be able to get different brands just about anywhere.

All in all, it is not an elegant solution, but weary parents who need a break will love it with all its faults.

2.0 out of five stars Not really for kids, July 2, 2008
By M & J with twins (Lake Champlain, NY) See all my reviews () This review is from: North States Superyard Classic XT Gate Play Yard (Baby Product) I bought two of these gates for my twins with hopes of connecting them together forming a rectangle around their present play mat. This product surely couldn’t perform that function. My 10m/os tipped it over now. Then we tried the gates as advertised, individually as hexagons, and they still were able to move them.

The worst part tryed to return them. They were placed in one order, but shipped them as two. When requesting a ‘call tag’ to retrieve them, they only picked up one box. The other stayed on my front porch. Many emails and calls rid me of the other gate and I received my refund.

I ended up purchasing two Kidco Playdens PD10. They connected together in the 8′ X 4′ configuration I needed (I called Kidco 1st to make sure), there’s two swinging entries, it’s tough, it’s taller than the Superyard, and they can’t climb it. This solution costs more, but was really my only choice.

For kids of the age where they’re challenging their standing and climbing expertise, I could keep moving when looking at this product.

5.0 out of five stars This was great, September 5, 2007
By K. Gehring “nursing student/mama of 2″ (Kentucky, USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: North States Superyard Classic XT Gate Play Yard (Baby Product) When our 2nd kiddo started to get mobile, I knew it was time to kid proof the great room. Problem is, our great room is just that great, as in big. The doorways are large, the floor space is big, and our inquisitive 9 month old was keen to explore every nook and cranny. Our older daughter was not quite as inquisitive at this stage, plus we lived in a different house at that time, so we were faced with a new challenge of creating a safe play area for the baby.

One day I had the idea of to get a play yard for the great room, instead of covering/blocking every single possible “hazard” (the entertainment cabinet, the CD tower, etc.). I ventured to Babies R Us and found this play yard and the extension kit (2 extra panels) and bought it. I set it up at home and have been happy with it since.

For awhile, I used it in its totally enclosed state, but the baby did not like being separated from the rest of us. I tinkered with it and came up with a way to keep her out of trouble, while allowing her access to us now, it is in a big arc form with one end butting up against the sofa, the other end butting up against a bench. She’s lots of room to play (I keep her toys in there with her) but she can not get out or get to any “dangerous” stuff in the great room.

As for looks, yeah, our great room is not company ready now. But we have a four year old and a 10 month old in the house, so the house is not pristine anyway (my house is CLEAN, just not generally NEAT.Ha ha). I figure it is temporary, till she’s old enough to know to not touch certain things. Besides, we do not have company, except for family, so the unattractive ness of the play yard is not an issue here. I’d gladly overlook the ugliness of it just for the convenience and benefits it gives.

When the time comes that we not have to use this for the kiddo, I will most likely hang onto it, either to offer up to friends/relatives someday, or to keep as a puppy play yard for the future.
